A spreadsheet program is a natural and ubiquitous way to work with data, which is why almost anyone using a computer has a basic knowledge of how to use Excel or Numbers. You can lay the information out nicely in formatted columns and easily perform calculations using formulas. A natural extension to the spreadsheet is a graph or chart, where values can be plotted using one or more columns. It is one of the best ways to see all of your data and make sense of it. One or more columns representing location, such as an address or longitude and latitude values, are best displayed on a map as spatial patterns may become evident when the data is visualized. Relying on a single way to view your information may prevent you from learning everything it has to tell. Having a collection of tools at hand is important so you can use the most appropriate one(s) for the task at hand. It is also important to have all of them working together in a single cohesive application so you are not jumping from one application to another. Working with your data in a disconnected manner using multiple applications, such as a spreadsheet and a GIS means you spend time managing the differences between the applications, such as data formats and user interfaces. Work becomes disconnected and cumbersome, which is a barrier to getting the most from your information.

The dynamic interactive reporting solutions we build using SharePoint Online let you work with your data in a number of ways. You can jump from a tabular list of items, such as assets, that can easily be sorted and filtered to a sophisticated map showing the same items in relation to space and time. A new item can be added, edited or deleted in either the list or map, and everything is summarized on a project home page or dashboard containing graphs, commonly used documents, notifications and a calendar of events. Each list of items has a default view, which defines what columns are displayed, a query that can be used to filter what items are available and other useful features. You can create as many other views as you like and work with them as items in a table or items on a map.  This lets you further organize your information by breaking them into groups that make sense for the type of information you are working with. All of this is done within the application and does not require any coding or customization. Our solutions are designed to be flexible and configurable, so clients can start working within hours, not weeks. To see this all in action for yourself, please send us a note or give us a call.
